I am currently enrolled in a Portuguese class at my university. To get an Arts and Humanities degree, one must complete two semesters of a foreign language. I picked Portuguese, mainly due to the Brazilian band Bonde do Role. I loved the way the language sounded, and decided to start learning.
I am on my second semester, and decided to seek out more Brazilian music. I searched for the terms shoegaze and Brazil, and was directed to the web only record label, Sinewave. Sinewave is a label that focuses on a variety of musical styles. The main ones represented are shoegaze, post rock, and experimental rock. All of the releases are free, and can be downloaded directly off of the website, either on the albums section, or on one of the artists‘ pages.
Not only is much of the site in Portuguese (though navigation tabs ie artist and album are in English); the sheer number of bands available upon first entering the site can be a bit daunting. Here are a few that I enjoyed the most (so far):
Blanched - They are a post rock outfit. They do a good job of balancing the hard and soft elements of their music. I would recommend getting all of their albums, but if you get just one, get the EP Blanched Toca Angelopoulos. The song “Tristes dos que Procuram Dentro de Si Respostas Porque Lá Só Há Espera” is a highlight.
Este Silêncio – Pianos, reversed sounds, drums, and strings make up the bulk of their beautiful noise. They are very relaxing and mood setting.
Gray Strawberries – They are my personal favorites. A post rock band from Indaiatuba, they play guitar and synth driven music that is mostly instrumental, though the excellent cut “Frozen” features vocals.
Herod Layne – The last band I am going to feature, but by no means the last one you should check out, is another group of post-rockers. They have a good mix of Pink Floyd style (their name is a nod to the Pink Floyd song “Arnold Layne“) guitars and heavier Mogwai style distortion freak outs.
All in all, Sinewave is an excellent record label. If post rock and the ilk are to your liking, go to their site and download yourself some free Brazilian noise.

I actually have some of your songs, and really dig them. If I had more than the four that i found, I would have listed you individually. There were quite a few other bands i left off as well, that I am currently listening to. Keep up the great tunes, I loved what I have heard so far.
Check out our 2 eps released by Sinewave: Electrolândia (2008) and Tempestadestelar (2009). Cheers from São Paulo, Brazil
